Now, it’s worth mentioning that, in my opinion, smaller cities can present certain challenges for international medical graduates (IMGs) when it comes to securing positions. While it’s essential to acknowledge this reality, it’s not the focus of our discussion in this article. Rest assured, there are various factors at play, and we’ll delve into those in a different article.

Nevertheless, Johnson City possesses its own unique charm and advantages. It offers a close-knit community, a more intimate and personalized environment, and the potential for strong relationships and networking opportunities within the medical field. Additionally, smaller cities often provide a sense of community engagement, where you can truly make a significant impact on the lives of your patients and become an integral part of the local healthcare ecosystem.

7. Brentwood, Tennessee

8. OakRidge, Tennessee

Oak Ridge is a unique city with a population of approximately 30,000 people. While it may have a smaller population compared to other cities, Oak Ridge offers its own distinct advantages and opportunities for medical professionals like you.

9. Paris, Tennessee

Moving on to the next city on our list: Paris, Tennessee. This charming city boasts a unique feature—a replica of the iconic Eiffel Tower, reminiscent of its namesake in France.

In Paris, you’ll find the notable Henry County Medical Center, which serves as a hospital for international medical graduates like yourself.

With a population of approximately 10,000 people, Paris offers a close-knit community atmosphere where you can develop strong connections and have a meaningful impact on the healthcare landscape.

What are the requirements?

  • You must complete medical training from a WHO-recognized school
  • You must finish residency in your home country
  • You need USMLE & be ECFMG certified
  • You apply to the hospitals for a supervised training as a fellow
  • Upon successful completion, you get a licensure

Summary

The list of 14 hospitals I’ve provided is based on my understanding of availability of ACGME accredited training & the potential opportunities for international medical graduates (IMGs). However, it’s important to note that each hospital has its own individual policies and preferences when it comes to accepting IMGs. Ultimately, the decision lies with the hospitals themselves.

As an IMG, it’s essential to put in your full effort and dedication to maximize your chances of success in the state of Tennessee.
